A Walk In The Woods Film Review

Image
I went to see A Walk In The Woods last night at the cinema.  Normally the thought of two old guys hiking through the American wilderness would not be top of my list of films to watch at the cinema, but the film is based on the book of the same name by Bill Bryson which I read years ago and thoroughly enjoyed, so I thought I would give it a go. I am really glad I did.  The film recounts Bills trip along the Appalachian trail in the eastern United States which is  2200 miles long.  It starts off with a jaded Bill doing the morning talk show circuit plugging a special edition set of his previous books based on his travels in various countries around the world (I would definitely recommend these books by the way, including Notes from a Small Island recounting his trip around Britain).  Bill (played by Robert Redford) is fed up with life and hasn’t written anything more than the foreword in a book for over 4 years.   After the death of an acquaintanc...

Netflix and Cinema Recommendations - The Killing, Suite Francaise, Fast & Furious 7

Image
If you are looking for something to watch, here are some films and tv shows that I really do recommend. On Netflix The Killing - I just binge watched all 44 episodes and I loved it.  This is the US version of the Danish original.  It's dark, atmospheric, has a strong female lead and the relationship between the 2 main detectives (Sarah Linden and Stephen Holder played by Mirielle Enos and Joel Kinnaman respectively) just grows and grows over the 4 seasons.  The one liners that Holder constantly comes out with  have to be some of the best on TV.  This is must watch tv and what binge watching was invented for.  I have to say when I got to the end I just wanted to rewatch it all again straightaway.  I can't wait to watch the Danish version to see how it compares. In Your Eyes - check out my full review here of this sweet romance involving 2 completely different people who share a unique bond. Cinema Suite Francaise  - starr...

In Your Eyes Film Review

Image
I subscribe to Netflix, mainly to catch up on some TV series that I missed when they were on tv (Breaking Bad amongst others). One of the things that I struggle with on Netflix is finding good movies. I can’t count the amount of times that I have started watching a movie, but given up after half an hour because it just does not grab me. So when I find a great movie, I want to share it with everyone.  One such movie is In Your Eyes. Written by Joss Whedon of Buffy fame, this is the story of 2 people from completely different worlds (one a wealthy doctors wife in New Hampshire, the other an ex-con trying to get on with his life after prison in New Mexico). Since childhood they have shared a telepathic link which they have barely been aware of, but years later this link suddenly becomes much more intense and they can see, feel and hear what is happening to the other, although they cannot read each other’s minds and they are able to break the connection at will....

Film Reviews and Cineworld Unlimited Card

Image
I love going to the cinema and always have so I have a Cineworld Unlimited card which I've had for a few years now. I pay £15.90 a month (it's slightly more in London) and I can go to the cinema as many times as I want in any Cineworld other than in London. Usually I average 3-4 times a month which makes for a decent saving as I think its around £7-8 per film for an adult now (outside of London). Anyway I went to see a couple of films recently so I thought I would review  them. If you like chick flicks/romances than these films are for you. First I went to see A New York Winters Tale which stars Colin Farrell as a street thief 100 years ago who meets and falls in love with a terminally ill girl. It follows the usual storyline of boy meets & falls in love with girl who is dying, which to be fair has been done many times before. If you can ignore Colins dodgy hair style and you like a cheesy romance than it's a good movie. The first part of th...
