Beauty Box Wars - Look Fantastic Versus Birchbox

It's been a while since I last did a post comparing beauty boxes.  You can read my first one here.  I wasn't overly impressed with the previous beauty boxes I received, so I decided not to subscribe to any and just to wait for offers to come up, or just see what took my fancy along the way.  This time I am comparing beauty boxes from Look Fantastic and Birchbox.  The reason I chose these companies was because Birchbox had some great offers and Look Fantastic was a box that I hadn't tried out before.

The first box that I want to review was the Birchbox x Etsy.  This box was from August 2018 and I got the November 2018 Nutcracker box and this Etsy box for £5 plus £2.95 delivery which was too good a deal to pass up.
Birchbox x Etsy August 2018
The Etsy box contained:

Rituals Happy Buddha Foaming Shower Gel - 50ml worth approx £2.12.  I'm happy with this as I know I will use it and I like the brand.

CLE Cosmetics Melting Lip Powder in Red Cherry - 0.9g worth approx £6.75.  This is a new brand to me and the product is a lip powder that melts into a matte lip tint.

Bumble and Bumble Don't Blow It Fine Hair Styler - 15ml worth approx £2.50 - This product gives some texture and volume to fine hair, which I don't need when my hair is curly, but is perfect for when I have straightened my hair as it has a tendency to be way too flat as it is so fine.

Dr Botanicals Pomegranate Superfood Regenerating Sleeping Mask - 30ml worth £12.  Another brand that I have not used before.  It's for dry skin and I like a mask that you can leave on overnight, so happy with this.

Dirty Little Secret Eye Shadow Crayon in the shade Gold Plated - Full Size worth £10.50.  This is a lovely gold shade, but I am not a fan of cream eye shadows (other than Charlotte Tilbury) as I have oily lids so I will pass this on to one of my friends.

Overall, this box has a value of £33.87, which is not the greatest value and I don't think I would have been impressed if I had paid the full price for this box which is normally £12.95.  That being said I will use 3 out of the 5 products and there were 3 brands which I have never tried before, which is the whole point of beauty boxes I think.
Birchbox Nutcracker and the 4 Realms November 2018
The first thing that I noticed with the Nutcracker box was that one of the items was missing, so I emailed Birchbox and they arranged to send the missing item to me straight away.  It's not included in this photo, but I should have received a sample of the Polaar Polar Night Cream.  The other items that I received were:

Marcelle BB Golden Glow Illuminator - 10ml worth approx £5.67.  This is a brand that I have never used before and something that I can definitely get some use out of.

Mannakar Diamond Dust in the shade Enchanted - 2.5g (full size) worth £15 - This is a pretty bronze shade that is just up my alley.

Dr PawPaw Original Balm - 10ml worth £3.95.  I have used this before and there is no such thing as having too many lip balms with my dry lips, so happy to receive this.

Spacemasks.com Interstellar Relaxation Self Heating Eye Mask - 1 mask worth £3.50. I am always happy to receive a mask as I love using them.

Polaar Polar Night Cream - 25ml worth £16.  This is a brand that I have only come across in beauty boxes and it's quite expensive so I am sure that I will enjoy using it.

The total value of this box was £44.12 which isn't bad and I am happy to try everything out so I can't complain.
Birchbox December 2018
I wasn't planning to keep my Birchbox subscription going after the other 2 boxes, but I was so busy that I totally forgot to cancel.  I loved the box that this came in as it has stars all over it which is perfect for me (if I ever got a tattoo it would definitely have stars in it). This box was probably the best out of the 3 that I received from Birchbox. It contained:

Benefit The POREfessional Pearl Primer - 3ml worth approx £3.82.  I do like Benefit makeup, so happy to try out this new to me product.

Laritzy Cosmetics Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in the shade Tidal - Full size worth £20.  This is a lovely dusky pink shade which is perfect for me.

Balance Me Flash Cleanse Micellar Water - 30ml worth £6.  I like this brand and I like micellar water, so I am happy to receive this product is my box.

Oh K! Bubble Sheet Mask Exfoliate & Cleanse - 1 mask worth £7.50.  I love sheet masks and this is a brand that I haven't tried before.

Percy & Reed Totally TLC Hydrating Mask - 25ml sachet worth £3.25.  My dry hair needs all the help it can get, so this is definitely a product I can use.

The box also included some extras which were a Birchbox Hair Comb and a Hotel Chocolate Chocolate Duo.

The value of this box was £40.57 which I am happy with and will use all the products that I received.
Look Fantastic Beauty Box October 2018
Now onto the Look Fantastic October 2018 Beauty Box.  This cost £15 including delivery and came with a free Elle magazine.  I loved the green colour coordination of the box and the leaflet, very autumnal and classy looking.

Monu Skin Line Smoothing Night Renewal Mask - 30ml worth approx £27.  Wow this is a pricy product.  I am always looking for a night cream to smooth and hydrate my dry skin, so I can't wait to try this one.

Dr Lipp Tint Elderberry Pigment - 8ml (full size) worth £6.99.  I have tried the clear balm, so happy to receive the tinted version.

Pixi Fresh Face Blush in the shade BeachRose - 4.5g worth £8.  Pixi is one of my favourite brands and I haven't tried a blush, so happy with this product.

PRAI Ageless Throat & Decolletage Creme - 15ml worth approx £7.50.  I don't have a specific product for this area of the body, so will give it a try.

Ahava Deadsea Water Mineral Body Lotion - 40ml worth approx £4.64.  I go through a lot of body lotions and this is a brand that I haven't used before.

Talika Bubble Mask Bio-Detox - 1 mask worth £8.50.  I like bubble masks so this is a win for me.

This box is worth approx £62.63, so it was the best value box of the lot and I was happy with all the products that I received.

Overall, I think that I preferred the Look Fantastic box over any of the Birchboxes as it just had a better selection of products as well as better value.  I am not going to subscribe to Look Fantastic, purely because I have a massive stash of products to work through, but I may purchase one now and again as a treat.

Which is your favourite beauty box?
