Project Use It Up - 10 Products

You may have seen my regular empties posts showing you all the products that I have used up every couple of months, so I thought I would take inspiration from YouTube and take part in Project Use It Up where I pick 10 products that I want to finish.  I am not going to set myself a target date, I am just using it as a way of reminding myself which products to prioritise as most of them are at least half empty. Here's the 10 products that I decided to start the project off with:
Project Use It Up
  1. Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir Cologne 30ml - There's less than a quarter left, so this should be really easy to get through.  I love the scent, but I've had it for a while so would like to finish it up so that I can try out a different Jo Malone Fragrance.  Finished 8th December 2015.
  2. MAC Strobe Cream 30ml - there's about half a tube left so I am gonna use this under my foundation for the rest of the year to use it up.
  3. Lush Popcorn Lip Scrub 25g - again there is about half left.  I think I bought this in the sales last Christmas, so it really needs to be used up.
  4. Clarins Beauty Flash Balm 30ml - there's probably about a quarter of a tube left, so again I will use it under my foundation or maybe as a mask.
  5. Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream 50ml - I struggled to find a use for this cult beauty product, but I have now found that it really helps to keep my lips soft and smooth in winter.  There's about a third left in the tube.
  6. Oskia Renaissance Mask 15ml - There's only half left, so this should be easy to use up. Finished 10th December 2015.
  7. L'Oreal Color Riche Nail Polish in Sweet Amethyst 5ml - I would say there is just under half left.  I love this rose gold metallic colour, so I am happy to wear it regularly. Finished 8th December 2015. I was quite surprised when I finished this one.  The ball bearings actually fell out of the bottle as there was no more polish to scrape out.
  8. Organic Surge Orange Flower Toner 200ml - Toner is a part of my skincare routine that I find easy to miss out, so will just make more of an effort to use this product daily as there is only a quarter of a bottle left. Finished 20th December 2015.
  9. Garnier Roll-on Eyes 15ml - I have loads of different eye creams and serums on the go at anyone time, so I will make sure that this is the one I use most.  This is half full.
  10. Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Lipstick 08 - I do love this lipstick but I have had it quite a while, so I am really going to make an effort to use this one up.  I find makeup takes ages to get through, so I think that I will take this to work with me so I can reapply throughout the day.  There is about half left.
I wonder how long it will take to get through this lot.  If it doesn't take too long, I may create some Use Up Lists that focus on certain products like nail varnish or eyeshadows.  Keep reading my blog for updates on how I get on with this challenge.

Let me know if you are doing something like this to use up your stash.

The Library of Fragrance Gin & Tonic Cologne Spray Review

Gin & Tonic is the 2nd scent that I have tried from The Library of Fragrance. You can read my review of Sunshine here.  I really love this clean, fresh & crisp fragrance. It's the perfect scent for a cold winter day. It's a light, cool citrus fragrance that gives you a wonderful wake up call when you spray it on every morning. I would say this is unisex as it's not sweet or floral.
The Library of Fragrance Gin & Tonic Cologne Spray Review
I have no idea if it's anything like a real gin & tonic, but if this scent is anything to go by I think I will have to give the drink a try. Overall Gin & Tonic is a lovely fresh fragrance that I wear on a daily basis. I have had so many compliments since I first started using Library of Fragrance Gin & Tonic Cologne Spray.

The Library of Fragrance colognes can be layered to create unique fragrances and you can find out more about which scents to layer with Gin & Tonic on their website. They cost £15 for 30ml and Boots are currently doing an offer of 2 for £25.

I really want to try Christmas in New York next.

I bought this with my own money as part of a You Beauty Discovery Box.

Christmas is Coming Part 3 - Marks & Spencer Ultimate Beauty Advent Calendar

I really couldn't resist the Marks & Spencer Ultimate Beauty Advent Calendar when I saw it in Leeds store the other day.  I really thought I'd missed the boat with this one as they were already sold out online and I couldn't get into town on the day they were released.

Luckily they were still available in store when I went on Thursday, so I would advise you to get to your nearest store asap if you still want to buy one as they will probably sell out pretty quickly if they haven't already.

It's a real bargain at £25 when you spend an additional £25 on beauty products, which is really easy to do considering M&S now stock Ren, Pixi, Stila, L'Occitane, Leighton Denny & Nuxe to name but a few.  I also used a 20% voucher which made it £20. It's worth over £200 and if you don't want any spoilers don't look any further.

Another Empties Post for November 2015

I have to admit that I kind of like writing these empties posts, as it gives me a warm glow to see that I can actually use up all the products that I buy.  Here's a quick glimpse at some of the products that I have finished in the last couple of months.
Empties Post for November 2015
I have used up a few body sprays and perfumes:
  • Bath & Body Works Japanese Cherry Blossom Fragrance Mist - This is one of my favourite B&BWs fragrances so I will definitely repurchase next time I visit the US (WBA).
  • The Body Shop Shea Body Mist - A really light and subtle scent that is perfect for working days - I would buy this again (WBA).
  • The Body Shop Moringa EDT - a sweet sugary fragrance that is perfect for summer (WBA).
  • YSL Parisienne EDP - this is a really pleasant floral scent that was perfect in the summer, but it's not special enough to repurchase (Would not buy again WNBA).
Here are some lotions and hand creams that I have finished:
Empties Post for November 2015
  • I really liked the Victoria's Secrets Body Lotions in Pure Seduction (fruity) & Amber Romance (warm vanilla scent) that I bought in a set in the New Year sales.  I will definitely buy them again if they are in the sale (WBA).
  • Hand creams are hand creams really, nothing special, but useful to carry around and these were all nice creams - The Body Shop Moringa Hand Cream, Le Couvent des Minimes Gardeners Hand Healer and Hand Chemistry Intense Youth Complex.  I wouldn't go out of my way to purchase handcreams, I tend to just get them as freebies or as part of a gift set.
Empties Post for November 2015
These are the oils and serums that I have finished recently:
  • Trilogy Rosehip Oil antioxidant+ - this is a great oil when your skin is somewhat sensitive or dry (WBA).
  • YSL Forever Youth Liberator Serum - this works great under makeup (WBA).
  • Odacite Pure Elements Wild Carrot Serum Concentrate - This is an organic brand and I really liked using this serum (WBA).
  • Pomegranate Active Night Plus - to be honest I didn't really like the rollerball application of this product (WNBA).
Empties Post for November 2015
Here are a few random products:
  • Nailtiques Formula 2 Nail Protein Treatment - I have definitely seen an improvement to my nails after using this treatment, they have gone from soft and peeling, to strong and long (WBA).
  • Juicy Couture EDP - I really like this fragrance (WBA).
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Enhancement Serum - I did not see any noticeable improvement to my brows after using this product (WNBA).
  • Max Factor Lip Gloss is Majeste - I think I got this is a GWP.  I WNBA as it's not a stand out colour.
  • I got the ModelCo Ultra Lip Gloss in Berry Pink free with a magazine.  It's nice enough, but not something I would go out and buy.
Empties Post for November 2015
  • Olay Total Effects 7 in 1 Day Moisturiser SPF 15 - this works well (WBA).
  • Frizz Ease Curl Reviver Mousse - WBA as it tames my frizzy, curly hair without making it sticky or crunchy.
  • Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel - This worked well and did not leave my skin feeling tight and dry like some cleansers do so I may repurchase.
  • Bourjois Magic Nail Polish Remover - The packaging states that this is instant removal in 1 second.  I think it takes at least 5 seconds, but it works really well to clean my nails and I have already repurchased this product.
Empties Post for November 2015
  • Dove Youthful Vitality Lightweight Formula Conditioner - WNBA as it did not do anything for my hair.
  • Merumaya Skin Brightening Exfoliating Peel - I really liked this product and you can read my review here.
  • Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation - This is a nice lightweight moisturiser that left my skin looking and feeling really nice so WBA.
  • Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil - I loved using this rich thick body lotion that smells of apricot so WBA.
Empties Post for November 2015
  • The Body Shop Hand Cleanser Gel in Satsuma and Coconut - These are my favourite hand sanitisers as I really love the strong fragrances.  I already have a stash of them in my cupboard.
Empties Post for November 2015
  • These are all the samples I have used up.  I won't review them as it's hard to form an opinion on only a few uses.  I will just mention the Skin & Tonic Steam Clean cleansing balm which I reviewed here, as this was more of a deluxe sample.  I did like this balm so WBA.
Empties Post for November 2015
  • I'm not sure why this Stila Stay All Day 10 in 1 HD Illuminating Beauty Balm ended up in a photo by itself, but I did like it and will probably buy it again as it's easy to use.
I'm really pleased with the amount of products that have used over the last few months but I still have plenty to get through including all the new products I bought in LA which I'm hoping to post about soon.

A Beautiful World Autumn/Winter 2015 Sampler Box

I do love a good beauty box and this is the first time that I have been able to get hold of one of the A Beautiful World Sampler Boxes.  You have to be online early as they sell out quickly.  The Autumn/Winter Sampler '15 box is no longer available and the next one is due out in May 2016.  The box cost £23.95 including postage and packing. Here's what was in the box:
A Beautiful World Autumn/Winter 2015 Sampler Box
I have to admit that at first glance I was a little disappointed as it was a big box and the samples were sooooo small.  One of the samples had also leaked a little bit.  In terms of the items included in the box,  I think there was a nice range of brands that I have never tried before, so that's a plus.

The box contained the following:
  1. 2 samples from Indie Lee - the COQ-10 Toner and Squalane Facial Oil (there's no size listed on either sample).  Indie Lee is an eco-friendly line that uses the finest all-natural ingredients from around the world.
  2. Youth to the People (YTTP) Kale + Green Tea Spinach Vitamins Age Prevention Cleanser.  Again no idea the size of this, but I would class it as a deluxe sample.   YTTP make natural age prevention skincare, powered by superfoods perfected with science.
  3. Plant Get It On Bodywash - Sandalwood, Cedar & Ginger - 30ml.  Plant are are a husband and wife team which makes apothecary and gourmet goods with a conscience
  4. There were 2 small samples from The Body Deli - Living Hair Shampoo and Conditioner (these were the samples that leaked).  Again no size is listed on the packaging.  The Body Deli is a range of superfood skincare
  5. I received 2 products from S.W.Basics.  A 30ml sample of their organic makeup remover and a full size Cinnamon Lip Balm.  S.W.Basics only uses natural and organic ingredients
  6. I received a full size Intensae Nail Polish in the colour Izzy which is a deep red, this is a 5-free formula.  I wouldn't normally buy this colour, but it does look perfect for Christmas, so I will definitely use it.
  7. Finally, I received Helen Dowsley Ethically Sourced Lashes.  Having finally given up on trying to apply false lashes, I am not going to keep these, but they do look nice lashes, not too over the top.  Helen is one of the leading makeup artists in Australia.

Interestingly, these brands are all American (except the lashes). I have only come across S.W.Basics before, so I am excited to try them all out.  I think this is a great box, if you want to try out a wide range of brands that are perhaps not as well known in the UK, but I was disappointed with the size of some of the samples and the fact that one leaked.  I'm not too sure what sort of value this box is as not all the samples have a size on them.  Will I get the next sampler box from A Beautiful World?  I'm not sure yet.  I think I will try out the products first and see if I like them, then make a decision.

What did you think of this box?

I bought this with my own money.

Recently I have.............................................

Recently I have done the following:

Been to see the new James Bond Film Spectre.  WOW! I am not a huge James Bond fan, (although I have probably watched all the recent ones from Pierce Brosnan onwards), but Spectra was brilliant, really entertaining and the 2.5 hour movie just flew by.  I hope this isn't Daniel Craigs last movie as Bond, but if it is then it's a great one to end on.  I loved the references to characters that have appeared in previous James Bond movies that Daniel Craig has been in.
Found a new favourite tipple.  I was invited to the Blind Pig Cider event at The Maven Bar in Leeds and I have to say although the flavours are unusual, they are very, very nice and I would definitely buy them in the future, My favourite flavour was Bourbon & Blueberry, but the Whisky, Honey & Apple and Rum & Poached Pear tasted great too.

Used my Tastecard and visited Pizza Express to take advantage of the 50% off food offer.  The Christmas menu is now available and I can really recommend the Smoked Salmon Rillette, the Spiced Lamb Romana Pizza and the Salted Caramel Profiteroles. There are usually some great deals available to join Tastecard or just to try it out for a few months, so do search the internet for the most up-to-date offers.

Planned to see The Breakfast Club on the big screen during the Leeds International Film Festival.  This was to celebrate The Breakfast Clubs 30th anniversary.  As it's one of my all time favourite films I couldn't miss this screening.  Sadly it was not to be.  Even though I dragged myself out of bed to make the screening at 9am on a very wet and cold Saturday, there were technical difficulties with the screening and as I can't lip read then not being able to hear the actors speaking was a bit of a problem.  Oh well at least it was a free screening. EDIT: The screening has now been rescheduled, so I can't wait to see this classic 80's movie on the big screen.

Gone to the gym for the first time since going on holiday.  It wasn't as bad as I was expecting, but I am really going to have to up my game if I want to shape up in time for the Christmas parties.

Started making sure that I carry tote bags with me as shops are now charging 5p per carrier bag.  There's a great tote bag by Julien MacDonald for Tickled Pink that is available at Asda for only £2.50.  I wrote a post about it here.

What have you been up to lately?

Julien MacDonald Tickled Pink Bag from Asda

I was just finishing a little shop at my local Asda store when I noticed a really nice tote bag for sale at the end of the checkout.  On closer inspection, it was by the fashion designer Julien MacDonald in aid of Tickled Pink.
Julien MacDonald Tickled Pink Bag from Asda
Tickled Pink has been raising money for Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now for the last 18 years and has raised £43 million so far.  Across the UK around 500,000 people (including 400 men) will be diagnosed with breast cancer every year and you can find more details about how to check your breasts on the Ticked Pink website.

The bag costs £2.50 and 89p from the sale of each bag will be donated to Tickled Pink.  The bag is made from Jute, a natural and biodegradable material. I can't find this bag to buy online, so it looks like it's only available in Asda stores.

It's also a good time to purchase bags like these now that stores are charging 5p per carrier bag.  Its better for the environment and over time you will save money and you are supporting a worthy charity.   What's not to like.

Birchbox November 2015 Review

I think that beauty boxes are a great way of trying out lots of different brands and they make a great treat every month.  I have been loyal to Birchbox for a number of years now and they rarely disappoint.  I have just received the November box and I am very happy with it.  I love the pretty shell pattern on the box, so I will definitely be keeping that for storage.  Here's what I received in the box:
Birchbox November 2015
  • Living Proof frizz nourishing styling cream - 30ml.   This product stops frizz so is perfect for me.  I have heard many good things about this brand so I can't wait to try this out.
  • REN Wake Wonderful Night-Time Facial - 10ml. This is a night-time mask that contains a blend of glycolic and lactic acids which trigger cell renewal whilst you sleep.  I love REN products, but I haven't tried this one yet so really glad to have this one in my box.
  • Delarom Acquaconfort Cream - 15ml.  I haven't heard of this brand before, but this product contains almond, apricot oils and vitamin E to nourish and soothe dehydrated skin, so it's perfect for me.
  • Lord & Berry Silhouette Neutral Lip Liner - 0.5g.  This clear lip pencil means that your lipstick won't bleed.  Funnily enough I bought a similar product at Sephora recently so I can't fault Birchbox for including this useful item in the box.
  • Beauty Protector Beauty Cream Body Lotion.  This is a rich, nourishing body cream that is perfect for winter to keep my skin soft and moisturised.
  • Finally I received Thumbs Up Rosa Nail Wraps.  I have never used nail wraps before, but I will give them ago as they are a really nice pattern.
All the items in the box are available to purchase from the Birchbox shop. Another great thing about Birchbox is that you can earn points for buying the box, reviewing the products and making purchases from their shop and the points seem to add up really quickly.  I bought a few things from the shop a few months ago using my points which I will post about shortly.

Birchbox costs £12.95 per month and if you sign up using my link below, you will receive £5 in points to use in the Birchbox Shop (I will received £10 in points in November and £5 in points after November).

Which beauty boxes do you subscribe to?

Christmas Is Coming Part 2 - Charlotte Tilbury The Book of Makeup Magic

Whoops I've done it again as the classic Britney Spears song goes.  Yes this is my 2nd beauty advent calendar purchase and it's a biggy, but it had to be done. The Charlotte Tilbury Book of Makeup Magic costs £150 and it's still available on Charlotte Tilburys website here.
Charlotte Tilbury The Book of Makeup Magic
It contains 12 mini and full size products and is a mixture of makeup and skincare. The reason that I bought this is because it's a great opportunity to try out a range of Charlotte Tilbury products without paying the cost of the full size products.  You can find a list of the contents here (I won't list them as I don't want to spoil it for anyone).  One of the products contained in this most luxurious of beauty calendars is the yet to be released Magic Night Cream which means that you get to try out a product that is not yet available to buy.
Charlotte Tilbury The Book of Makeup Magic
I love how each product is stored in a box rather than behind a door that you need to tear open as this means that the box will not get damaged and you can use it to store the products in if you want to.  I have to admit that I have already opened all of the boxes as there is no way that I am going to wait until December to try out all these wonderful products.

There is only 1 makeup item that I won't use as it's totally not my colour, but I will just gift that to my sister who I know will love it.

I bought this with my own money.

Christmas Is Coming Part 1 - Clarins Advent Calendar

I can tell Christmas is close because all the beauty advent calendars are going on sale.  My first beauty advent calendar purchase this year is from Clarins (it does not appear to be available to purchase online anymore). There are 24 mini clarins products which is a great way to try out a brand. I also received 6 deluxe samples as my order was over £60, along with 3 additional smaller samples.  Delivery was also free and the Clarins Advent calendar costs £60.

The Glamour Beauty Power List 2015 Beauty Box from Latest in Beauty

I recently bought The Glamour Beauty Power List 2015 Beauty Box from Latest in Beauty.  The box costs £18.99 and is worth £92.87.  It has been curated by Alessandra Steinherr, the Beauty Director at Glamour Magazine.
The Glamour Beauty Power List 2015 Beauty Box from Latest in Beauty
Here's what's in the box:
The Glamour Beauty Power List 2015 Beauty Box from Latest in Beauty
  1. Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick - there are 3 colours available and unfortunately I got the red one called Gladiolus which I know I won't wear, so I will pass that on to someone who will.
  2. Garnier Miracle Sleeping Cream - this is a full size product and was one of the reasons that I bought this box as I really want to try out this sleep mask.
  3. Nails Inc NailKale Superfood Base Coat - this is another full size product and the 2nd reason that I really wanted this box.  I have been trying to improve the condition of my nails this year as they break so easily, so I can't wait to give this product a go.
  4. Kiko Velvet Touch Creamy Blush - yet another full size product which comes in 3 variations.  I got 04 Hot Pink.  I think that this will be perfect to give me a bit of colour in the winter.
  5. Philip Kingsley Geranium & Neroli Elasticizer - I haven't tried this limited edition version before, so can't wait to give it a try.
  6. Eyeko Mascara - this travel sized version comes in 2 variations and I got the Midnight Blue Black which I was really happy about as I have loads of black mascaras, so it's great to try something different.
  7. Rimmel London 60 Seconds Super Shine Nail Polish - this is full size and comes in 3 variations - I got 203 Lose Your Lingerie which is a pale shimmery pink colour which looks lovely.
  8. The last product is Vita Liberata Self Tanning Night Moisture Mask - I am not a massive fan of self tan products, but I like the idea of a nighttime mask, so I will definitely give it a try.
I think this is a great value box, especially as the 2 products that I most wanted to try out are full size and worth more than the cost of the box.  Latest in Beauty is a great way of buying beauty boxes as you always know what's in them before you buy so you can't be disappointed.

I bought this with my own money.

Magazine Freebies November 2015

There are some great magazine freebies out this month (November 2015).
Magazine Freebies November 2015
First of all I received my subscription issue of Elle Magazine which included a free travel sized sample of Benefits new They're Real Tinted Primer.  What's exciting about this is that the product doesn't even launch for another 9 weeks, so Elle Magazine readers get to try this product before anyone else.  It's a mink-brown tinted lash primer that can be worn on its own or under mascara. It's a 3g sample.

I've tried the Benefit They're Real Lash Primer on its own and it works as a pretty good mascara for a more subtle look, but I love that Benefit have realised that a lash primer should be brown rather than white so it doesn't take ages to cover up with a black mascara.  I have used the lash primer underneath the Benefit They're Real Mascara and also the Benefit Roller Mascara (you can use any mascara, but those just happened to be the two I had to hand).

I also find that the lash primer works well as a mascara for my bottom lashes as a normal mascara is usually too wet and leaves me with splodges under my bottom lashes.  Overall I think this is a great magazine freebie and I think I will buy another magazine so I can get another lash primer as a backup which I am sure will work out cheaper than the full size product when it launches.  Elle Magazine costs £4 and is out now.
Magazine Freebies November 2015
Harpers Bazaar Magazine also has a freebie available in this months magazine. You can get a deluxe sample of The No 1 serum from Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair worth over £11.
Glamour Magazine Freebie
Finally, there is a choice of 4 Clinique products with this months Glamour Magazine. You can choose between Clinique High Impact Mascara, Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion, Nude Pop Lipstick or Cherry Pop Lipstick.  The magazine is £2.

Let me know if there are any other magazine freebies this month.

I bought these with my own money.
