Decluttering Ideas for Day One of Your Journey
I have too much stuff! There I have said it, I have fallen victim to overconsumption and I need to stop. Since its 1st September 2025, I want to start the month with some good habits, that will help me to declutter my life and stop buying things that I don't need. Whether it's the next big thing in skincare, or buying books and clothes that I just don't need, this is the start of my decluttering journey and I will keep you posted. Here are some ideas that I am going to try this month:

Start with a single drawer - Choose one drawer, maybe in your kitchen, desk, or bathroom and empty it completely. Only put back what you actually use.
The 12-12-12 Challenge - Find 12 items to throw away, 12 to donate, and 12 to sell on eBay or Vinted or giveaway to friends or family. It’s a quick way to make a noticeable dent.
Declutter by category, not location - Instead of tackling a room, focus on one category, like books, shoes, or mugs. It helps you see duplicates and excess more clearly.
Create a “Maybe” box - For items you’re unsure about, place them in a box with today’s date. If you don’t reach for them in 30 days, you probably don’t need them.
Digitally declutter - Unsubscribe from emails you never read, delete unused apps, and organize your desktop. Mental space counts too.
Use the “One In, One Out” rule - From today onward, if you bring something new into your home, commit to removing one item in exchange.
Declutter your wardrobe with the hanger trick - Turn all your hangers backward. After wearing something, hang it the right way. In 6 months, donate anything still facing the wrong direction.
Create a donation station - Set up a box or basket in a visible spot where you can drop items to donate. It keeps the momentum going.
Ask the “Would I buy this again?” question - If the answer is no, it might be time to let it go.
Celebrate small wins - Take a photo of your progress today. This is the first step of your decluttering journey. It's something worth remembering.
Today marks the beginning of my journey toward a lighter, more intentional life. It’s not about perfection, it’s about progress. Each item you release is a step closer to clarity. I've got this. I can't wait to get started on my decluttering journey and I will keep you all posted. Let me know if you are trying to declutter your life and give me any tips that have worked for you. Let's get started. Even small steps move us forward on our journey.
