This week I have..........................

  1. Started reading the 2nd fifty shades book (Fifty Shades Darker).  I managed to pick up all 3 at a charity shop for a bargain price and whilst I admit to not loving the first book, after watching the film (which I did like), it made me want to pick up the other books in the series.  I am liking the 2nd book so far, so will try and finish it soon.
  2. Watched The Man From U.N.C.L.E at the cinema.  This was an enjoyable movie and the 2 lead actors were very funny and had great chemistry.  I never watched the original TV show, but I do hope that they make more films.
  3. Started thinking about a plan for my next holiday in Los Angeles later in the year.  I need to work out what things need to be booked in advance and when I am just going to wing it.  I will also be fitting in a couple of days in Las Vegas so I can't wait.  Any tips of what to do while I am out there will be greatly appreciated.
  4. Started decluttering.  So far I have started on my DVD and CD collection. I really only want to keep my absolute favourite songs and movies. Everything else I know I can watch or listen to online if I ever feel the need.  So far I have cleared out 11 CDs and 18 DVDs which is a good start. No picture here as there are some embarrassingly awful DVDs and CDs in my collection.
  5. Set myself a target of cooking something from 3 different recipe books - The Hairy Dieters, Deliciously Ella and I Quit Sugar.
  6. Watched November Man on Netflix.  I highly recommend this action film starring Pierce Brosnan as a retired government assassin, fighting for his life against his former protege (Luke Bracey).
What have you been up to this week?

Empties Post

It's been a while since I last wrote an empties post and as I have finished a good few items over the last month so I thought it would be a good time to do one.
Empties Post
Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant - This is a powder exfoliator that you add a little water to.  I did not notice any difference to my skin after using this product, so would not repurchase.
Cowshed Gorgeous Cow Blissful Body Lotion - I think this was a magazine freebie or from a beauty box. This is a lovely fragrance and is moisturising, but it doesn't wow me so I probably won't repurchase it.
Mio Double Buff Dual Action Enzyme Exfoliator - This is a very fine, creamy exfoliator that does a good job on my dry skin so I may repurchase this again in the future. £18.40 for 150ml.
Korres Basil Lemon Moisturising Body Milk - This has a lovely zesty fragrance and is nicely moisturising without being too thick.  Perfect fror summer, I may repurchase this at some point. Currently £8 for 200ml at M&S as there is 20% off.
Lush Snow Fairy Limited Edition Shower Gel - I absolutely love this shower gel, it's definitely my favourite.  It's limited edition and only available when the Christmas products come out in Lush (usually around October time). I always stock up in the Boxing Day sales.
Empties Post
The Library of Fragrance Sunshine Cologne Spray - I really liked this and would repurchase it in the future.  See my review here.
Vera Wang Preppy Princess - To be honest I think I may be too old to be wearing a perfume called Preppy Princess, but I think I got this in the Xmas sales a couple of years ago.  I really liked this perfume, it's a little bit fruity and a little bit floral which I really liked.    I wouldn't purchase it at full price as I've got so many other perfumes, but if I saw it on sale I would. Currently £17.50 for 30ml.
Empties Post
Palmers Olive Oil Formula Co-Wash Cleansing Conditioner - I have thick curly hair, that tends to frizz easily.  I tried this co-wash when I was having a problem with shampoos making my hair so knotty, I literally had to cut some of the knots out of my hair as I could not untangle them.  This leaves my hair feeling soft and makes my hair easy to detangle.  I definitely would repurchase this product as its great value. Currently on sale for £4.19 for 473ml.
Garnier Frutis Style Spray-On Serum I Love My Sleek - I really liked this product as it did tame my frizzy hair.  Unfortunately, I cant find it on sale in the UK and I have a feeling I might have purchased this in the US.
Ojon Damage Reverse Instant Restorative Hair Serum - I don't think this made any difference to my hair in any way.  I would not repurchase.
Ojon Rare Blend Tamer Wand - I  really liked this and would purchase it in the future.  See my review here.
Empties Post
Caudalie Beauty Elixir - I just had to try this cult product and I found it very refreshing during the summer months.  It left my skin feeling refreshed.  I may repurchase this at some point.  £10.90 for 30ml.
MAC Fix+ Skin Refresher - I didn't find this as refreshing as the Caudalie Beauty Elixir and I don't really have a need to set my makeup as I don't have oily skin, so I won't repurchase this product.
Empties Post
The products in the photo above all count towards my makeup challenge that you can read about here.
Nails Inc Caviar Topcoat - Nice enough product, but won't go out of my way to repurchase.  I prefer Seche Vite.
Max Factor Max Effect Mini Nail Polish - there is no name on the bottle, but it's a gold, glittery polish.  Nice colour, but won't repurchase as I have so many other polishes to use up.
Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm - This suited my dry skin and evened up my skin tone without masking my skin completely, which is my preferred look.  I may buy this again when I have used up all my other BB, CC, Tinted Moisturisers and Foundations. I think I got this in the US but can't remember how much I paid.
Kiko Extra Volume Lipgloss 09 - This is a really nice lipgloss which applied well and stayed on a reasonable amount of time.  I can't find this on the Kiko website but this product looks similar.  The only complaint I have with this product is that the packaging ended up breaking.  I don't know if it was my fault or not but it's never happened to any of my other lipglosses.
Vitage Color Minerals Lip Gloss - again another product where I don't know the name of the colour.  It's a pretty, glittery soft pink which is nice but not worthy of repurchase.
Clinique Moisture Sheer Lipstick in Sheer Spice - this is a lovely light lipstick that gives a perfect wash of colour.
L'Oreal Glam Shine Gloss Brilliance in Oriental Fuschia - liked the gloss, loved the colour.  Will buy again, but probably in a different colour just for a change. £8.69 for 17ml.
Empties Post
L'Occitane Delightful Rose Hand Cream and Cherry Blossom Hand Cream - I really like L'Occitane Hand Creams so I can really recommend both of these. They smell lovely and really moisturise my hands. £8 for 30ml.
Crabtree & Evelyn Tarocco Orange Euccalyptus & Sage Ultra Moisturising Hand Cream - Very similar to the L'Occitane Hand Creams. Nice fruity fragrance. Would not go out of my way to repurchase, but I would be happy enough to receive it in a beauty box or as a magazine freebie.
The Body Shop Strawberry Hand Cleanse Gel - I keep these in my bag, in the car and on my desk at work.  I buy them in a variety of fruity fragrances and also the coconut variety and they keep my hands fresh and clean and germ free. I always get compliments on the fragrance when I use these. I will definitely keep repurchasing them. £2.50 for 60ml.
Molton Brown Rhubard & Rose Replenishing Hand Cream - this came in a beauty box. It's not as nice as the L'Occitane Hand Creams so I won't buy a full size.
Empties Post
GlamGlow Brightmud Eye Treatment sample - I did not see any noticeable difference after one use so probably won't risk buying a full size version as it's quite expensive.
Gatineau Eye Pads - Again no noticeable difference after one use so won't risk buying a full size as this is an expensive brand.
Empties Post
I am trying to use up some of my samples and the 3 perfumes that I used up were Especially Escada Elixir, Agent Provocateur Fatale and Victoria's Secret Bombshell Pink Diamonds.  They were all lovely, but it's doubtful that I will go out and buy the full size of any of them as I have at least 20 full sized perfumes to use up.

I am really happy with the amount of products that I have used up and hopefully I don't need to replace any of them just yet as I have plenty of similar products in my stash.  It's nice to make use of the product mountain that I store in my home, so I will definitely keep posting about my empties in future as I think that it keeps me motivated.

Pixi by Petra 2-in-1 Natural Brow Duo Review

It's great when you find a Holy Grail (HG) product and Pixi by Petra 2-in-1 Natural Brow Duo is definitely a HG product for me.
Pixi by Petra 2-in-1 Natural Brow Duo Review
I think that I have mentioned before that I have very sparse eyebrows and it's not due to overplucking in the past.  It's just a family trait shared by my mum, my sister and me.  Therefore, I am always on the lookout for amazing brow products, that give me natural looking, but noticeable brows.
Pixi by Petra 2-in-1 Natural Brow Duo Review
What's great about Pixi Natural Brow Duo is that it's a 2-in-1 product that includes a waterproof brow pencil and gel.  I have the Deep Brunette shade and the angled brow pencil is so easy to use to shade in my brows.  Once I have perfected my brow, all I have to do is brush through the tinted soft-hold gel to set everything in place.  This is such a great product to travel with and I'm so glad that I bought it. It's £15 here.

What are your HG brow products?

Braun Silk-epil 9 Epilator Review

I asked my sister to guest post on my blog this week as she has been trying out an epilator for the first time.  Here's what she had to say:

This is my first experience with an epilator and I must admit I was somewhat worried about how painful the Braun Silk-epil 9* would be. I was pleasantly surprised that while I could feel the hairs being pulled out I didn't find it as painful as I thought it would be at all. On the majority of my legs I felt a slight tingling sensation and it was only around my ankles that I really felt it and it made me wince a little. The bottom line though was that the little pain I felt was worth it as my legs were smooth and hair free after a couple of minutes.

It's now 3 weeks later and the hairs have started to grow back in some areas but they are quite fine at the moment.  I can already see this being a staple in my body care routine.  I will definitely be using it before my holidays.   I was even brave enough to use it on my underarms and I did not feel any pain which I was amazed at because I thought I would be quite sensitive there and I expected it to make my eyes to water.
Braun Silk-epil 9 Epilator Review
I would recommend this product, it's definitely converted me to epilators and I can't see myself going back to messy hair creams or razors.

*I received this product free from Bzzagent, but my review is completely my own and I was not paid for this post.

Feel Good Non Alcoholic Cocktails

It looks like the weather is gonna be pretty nice around these parts this weekend, so out comes the BBQ.  Well we have to make the most of any good weather that we get over here in the good old UK. I don't drink much alcohol during the day, so I am always looking around for new non alcoholic drinks to try out and I found some great ones at Asda recently.
Feel Good Non Alcoholic Cocktails

Feel Good Non Alcoholic Cocktails come in 4 varieties and they all taste great. They are a great alternative to alcohol and my usual Coke & Pepsi.  The 3 flavours I have tried so far are Mojito, Peach Bellini & Strawberry Daiquiris and they are all refreshing, but not too sweet.  They all contain fruit, water and no added sugars and are gently sparkling.  They also do a Buck Fizz version, but I haven't tried that one yet).

I usually stock up when they are 2 for £2 at Asda, but they are usually £1.29 each for a 250ml can.  It looks like Tesco sells 750ml bottles for £2.49 as well.

Skin & Tonic London Steam Clean Cleanser Review

I always say this, but the reason I subscribe to beauty boxes like Birchbox and You Beauty Discovery is the chance to discovery smaller brands that I might not come across otherwise.  One such brand is Skin & Tonic  London which is an organic skincare line and the product that I tried out was the Steam Clean Cleanser.
Skin & Tonic London Steam Clean Cleanser Review

Skin & Tonic London Steam Clean Cleanser Review
This simple cleansing balm is made with British Thistle, Eucalyptus and Spearmint oils.  This is a lovely cleansing balm that smells really refreshing and is a lovely wake up call if I use it in my morning routine.  I only need to apply a small amount to my face and rub it in and do a little facial massage at the same time.  As recommended I use a warm muslin cloth and lay it over my face for a minute and breathe in the fragrant balm, then wipe the balm off with the cloth.  My skin is left feeling really clean and it removes all traces of my make-up.  It does not leave my skin feeling tight and dry like some cleansers I have tried.  Steam Clean costs £27 for 50g or 15ml for £11.  It makes a great lip balm as well if you like your products to multi task.

Their products are made from organically certified ingredients. They only use a maximum of 7 ingredients.  They do not test on animals because they love them too much and 10% of profits will go to  You can read more about this ethical British company here.   I really do like the attitude of this company and look forward to trying out some more of their products.  They do a range of  mini size products which will be handy for travelling.

I received this product in a beauty box which I paid for with my own money

My Weekend in London

I just spent another weekend in London.  See my last trip report here.  I won't go through everything in detail, just mention some of the highlights and new discoveries.  I have to say the weather was scorching on both days, so it was a brilliant weekend.

The primary reason for my visit was to go and see some shows at the theatre. I really enjoyed Bend It Like Beckham The Musical and you can read my full review here.  I also went to see The Elephant Man which starred Bradley Cooper, Alessandro Nivola and Patricia Clarkson.  This show recently transferred to The West End from Broadway and it is such a good show.  I was worried that it would be too serious because of the subject matter, but it was very entertaining, funny in parts and also heartbreaking as well.  It's only on in London until 8th August 2015 so it might be a struggle to get tickets, but if you can manage it, it's well worth going to see and all the performances were amazing. We are all used to seeing Hollywood star Bradley Cooper in roles which showcase his good looks, so taking on this role could not be more different and shows what an excellent actor he is as he does not wear any prosthetics to show the deformities of the man he is playing.

We always make a visit to Borough market on our London trips and as it was close by, we decided to visit Tower Bridge where you can walk through the towers with various exhibitions and also cross the glass floor high-level walkways.  If you are afraid of heights the glass walkway may not be for you, but you do not have to walk across the glass if you don't fancy it.  The view is great and we were also lucky enough to be on the glass walkway when they raised the bridge, so we got a great view of that (they also raised it again when we had exited the Tower so we got to see the bridge being raised from outside the Tower as well).  It was amusing to see all the cyclists and motorcyclists have a race across the bridge once the barriers had been lifted again.  I managed to find a 2 4 1 offer for the Tower Bridge Exhibition here, so it only cost us £9 for 2 adult tickets which was a bargain (you do need to be travelling to London  by train to take advantage of this offer.

Finally, I found a great grilled cheese sandwich shop called Melt Room which I have to say sells the best grilled cheese sandwiches I have ever tasted.  I had the Portobello Mushroom melt which cost £4.50, tasted divine and was huge. That was the perfect end to my London trip before I headed back to the train station.  I will definitely be paying them another visit next time I am in London.  It's a shame they don't have a shop in Leeds.

I don't have any hauls to show for my time in London as I did not do much shopping, but I had a great time and there is so much to see and do, so I will definitely be back.  What do you recommend to do in London?
