SensatioNail Gel Starter Kit

I was recently sent the SensatioNail Gel Starter Kit* to try out.  I have already tried the SensatioNail Polish to Gel Transformer Kit and reviewed it here.  I really liked the Polish to Gel Kit as it worked so well, so I was looking forward to trying out the Gel Starter Kit to see if it was as good.  I received the Scarlet Red colour which is just right for the Christmas period.

It's very easy to apply this Gel Polish and when you take into account how long it takes your nails to dry when applying standard nail polish, I do think this is quicker.

Initially, you prepare your nails by filing and buffing them, then wiping them over with a Gel Cleanser that comes with the kit.  You  then apply one layer of the Gel Primer and air dry your nails.  Once your nails are dry you apply a thin layer of the Gel Base and Top Coat which again comes with the kit.  Then cure your nails for 15 seconds.  It's great that the Gel LED Lamp blinks at 15 seconds and turns off at 30 seconds, so it's hard to get your timings wrong.  Once that's done you apply a thin layer of the Colour Gel Polish  and cure for 30 seconds.  Apply a second layer and cure again for 30 seconds.  Finally you apply another layer of the Gel Base and Top Coat and cure for 15 seconds.  To remove the moisture layer use the Gel Cleanser and lint free wipes.  This is all really easy to do and you are left with great nails for up to 2 weeks.  My manicure lasted 10 days before I got a couple of small chips but they were barely noticeable and it was only on day 13 that I had to remove the polish as I got a bigger chip on my nail.
Sensationail Gel Starter Kit
You can also add glitter to your nails as part of this process, which is really easy to do and creates some really pretty nails.    Nail Glitter costs £2.50 but there are some good offers if you buy more then one here.

To remove the polish you need to use the grey side of the buffer to buff and file the surface of the entire nail to break the top coat seal.  Soak nails in acetone for 15 minutes and then use the manicure stick to gently push the remaining gel polish off the nails.  It's pretty easy to do and the polish comes off fairly easily.

I really like this Gel Starter Kit.  It's very easy to use and if you regularly get a gel manicure it's going to save you so much money and look very professional.

The SensatioNail Gel Starter Kit is available for £49.99 at Boots.  This seems like a lot of money but considering how much a professional manicure costs it's a worthwhile investment, that's going to save you money.  There are lots of colours available and the nail polishes by themselves cost £15.

Footner Exfoliating Socks

I have recently had the opportunity to try out the Footner Exfoliating Socks*.  They promise to reduce hard skin and cracked heels with one application, and remove unwanted dead skin from your feet.  Super, just what I need to get my feet ready to show to the world in strappy heels at Christmas parties.  I won't traumatise you with before photos (well they are not that bad, but you get the general idea), but suffice it to say that there is a lot of hard and dry skin around my heels and on the balls of my feet.
Footner Exfoliating Socks
Footner Exfoliating Socks are easy to use, simply remove any nail polish from your feet, cut the plastic socks open at the top and slip your feet into them.  The socks are coated on the inside with a gel like substance.  There is an adhesive patch at the top of the socks which you can use to hold the socks onto your feet, which I didn't think worked that well, but the instructions do tell you to slip on some socks over the exfoliating socks which helps to keep them in place.
Footner Exfoliating Socks
The Footner Exfoliating Socks then need to be worn for 60 minutes.  The gel is quite cooling on your feet, but the socks worn over them helps to keep your feet warm.  Once the 60 minutes is over, simply remove the exfoliating socks and rinse your feet to remove the gel.  So far so good, although at this point there was no difference to my feet.

What happens after that is that between 1 and 7 days after use the hardened and dead skin begins to peel (so make sure you are not planning to go to any parties during this time as you don't want your feet peeling everywhere).

This is what happened:
Day 1 - no peeling.
Day 2 - still no peeling.
Days 3 - 5 - still nothing.  What's going on, I want something to happen.  I'm getting really impatient here.
Day 6 - Hallelujah and urgh gross, my feet have now started peeling mostly on the top of my feet and also around the heel.  On the down side I am going out to a Christmas party tonight so I won't be able to wear my heels because I don't want anyone to see my flaking feet.
Days 7 + 8 - my feet are full on flaking now and it's pretty gross.  I need to wear socks all the time so my feet don't flake on everything.  I hope the final results are worth it.
Day 9 - my feet are still flaking but not as much as the last couple of days.
Day 10 - the flaking has now stopped and my feet definitely look better than they did originally.  All the dry hard skin around my heels has disappeared and the top of my feet look and feel really smooth.

Overall, I am really impressed with the results.  There was lots of peeling and flaking, so you need to plan when to use this product carefully as you wouldn't want to do it close to a holiday or any other time when you would need to bare your feel in public.  It has just freshened up my feet and they definitely look and feel less dry, even under my heel which is usually really dry and hard.  This is a great treatment, that I would use 3 or 4 times a year to keep my feet looking and feeling great.

The Footner Exfoliating Socks can be bought at Boots or Superdrug and cost £19.99 for 1 pair which fit all foot sizes up to 10.5.

Empties December 2016 - Part 1

Here is my last empties post of 2016 (well this is part 1 of 2 because there are so many).  I have done quite well this year and used up loads of products, but I am pretty sure I have probably bought just as many new products as I have used.  Here's what I have finished recently.
I really love Bath & Body Works products and always stock up when I am in America.  I love the gentle foaming hand soaps and the hand sanitizers and would really recommend the Japanese Cheery Blossom, Hawaiian Pink Hibiscus and Fresh Watermelon Lemonade fragrances.
I would definitely treat myself to any of these shower gels and foams as they were all lovely.  I have used up Molton Brown Eucalyptus Body Wash & Suma Ginseng Body Wash, Rituals Indian Rose & Sweet Almond Oil Foaming Shower Gel & the Organic Mandarin & Yuzu version and L'Occitane Cherry Blossom Bath & Shower Gel.
When it's cold, I much prefer to use body oils and sprays instead of body butters and lotions, so I have used up quite a few of these products.  I really enjoyed using the Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Caudalie Divine Oil & Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream All-Over Miracle Oil (see my full review of this product here) and the E45 Intense Recovery Spray was so quick and easy to use and left my skin feeling really moisturised.
I love using oils in the bath as well as they are so relaxing and comforting.  I have used up nearly all my Aromatherapy Associates Bath & Shower Oils including Relax Light, Relax Deep, Revive Morning, De-Stress Muscle, Support Breathe & De-Stress Mind (so I am really hoping that I get some more for Christmas).  I also used Kneipp Herbal Bath Back Comfort Devil's Claw Bath Oil which I didn't really enjoy as it turned the water red and didn't give off much fragrance once in the water.
I bought the Kerastase Advent Calendar last year and have finally got around to using some of the products.  I bought the calendar for half price so it made the contents really good value.  They are all nice products, but I wasn't amazed by any of them, so I am not sure that I would buy any of them in a full size.
Finally, I used up a fair amount of skincare products.  Nivea Sensitive Caring Micellar Water (did the job well), Indeed Labs Facial Powdered Exfoliator (again did the job well, but I prefer a creamy exfoliator).  I bought the Mario Badescu Skin Care in America (see my full review here) and I really enjoyed using the Facial Spray with aloe, herbs and rosewater and the Keratoplast Cream Soap (I would definitely repurchase both).  I got the Charlotte Tilbury Take It All Off Genius Eye Make-Up Remover in the first CT Advent Calendar last year and whilst it's a really nice product that works well, I can get similar products for much cheaper, so will probably not repurchase.  The Sephora Triple Action Cleansing Water was another good product which I would repurchase next time I have a chance to visit a Sephora store.

This is just part 1 of my last empties post of the year.  Keep an eye out for part 2 which I will post shortly.

I bought these products with my own money

Optimum PhytoHydrate Anti-Dehydration Birch Water Micellar Tonic & Day Cream SPF15

I was recently sent the Optimum PhytoHydrate Anti-Dehydration Birch Water Micellar Tonic & Day Cream SPF15* to try out.

Optimum PhytoHydrate Anti-Dehydration Birch Water Micellar Tonic & Day Cream SPF15
Source Superdrug Press Office
This range is specially formulated to immediately comfort and replenish the skins moisture levels, which helps to improve the signs of aging caused by dehydration.  The products contain moisture intensive Nordic Birch Water sustainably tapped from Silver Birch Trees.  Birch water is recognised as a pure, potent anti-aging ingredient by Nordic women.
Optimum PhytoHydrate Anti-Dehydration Birch Water Micellar Tonic & Day Cream SPF15
Optimum PhytoHydrate Anti-Dehydration Birch Water Micellar Tonic leaves skin cleansed without feeling tight.  I really like this micellar tonic, I found it great for cleansing my skin even when I was wearing makeup (although I don't wear a lot of makeup.  You would probably need to double cleanse if you are wearing a full face of make up).  You can't use it on your eyes so you do need to use a make up remover/or other cleanser first if you are wearing eye makeup.  It has a very light fragrance which is not perfumed and you only need to use a small amount of the product to cleanse your face so it will last a good while.
Optimum PhytoHydrate Anti-Dehydration Birch Water Micellar Water & Day Cream SPF15
Optimum PhytoHydrate Anti-Dehydration Birch Water Day Cream SPF15 is a lightweight cream which absorbs quickly when applied and keeps my skin moisturised all day.  I didn't have any dry areas at all on my face when I used this cream. I like the fact that it has an SPF even though at this time of year I barely see the sun as I tend to get to work and leave work when it's dark outside.  You can apply make up over the top as it doesn't leave a greasy residue but more often then not I use it and go au natural as it leaves my skin looking and feeling great. Again I found that a little of this product went a long way so it lasts for ages and it has a very light fragrance.

These products are suitable for vegetarians and vegans and the key ingredients are Birch Water, Vitamin E, Pro-Vitamin B5 and Shea Butter.

Both products carry the Cruelty Free International stamp.

Optimum PhytoHyrate Anti-Dehydration Birch Water Micellar Tonic is priced at £4.99 & the Day Cream is £14.99.  These are good prices anyway, but even better, at the moment Superdrug have them on offer for half price.

I love Superdrug's range of products as they offer great products with high end ingredients at high street prices.  I have also reviewed one of Superdrug's other ranges here.

Jaguar Pace Eau De Toilette

If you are struggling to find a present for the man in your life (be it partner, brother, father or son), then you really can't go wrong with Jaguar Pace Eau De Toilette*.  From the box down to the bottle inside it's been designed with the aesthetics of the famous car brand in mind.  It's cool, classic and classy and I think any man would love to open this on Christmas day.
Jaguar Pace Eau De Toilette
Jaguar Pace's aroma is a stimulating trio of strong black pepper, fresh green apples and aromatic rosemary. The heady fragrance compound Cashmeran comes next.  It is a woody amber element with a spicy, almost peppery, fresh head note. The heart note of Jaguar Pace is rounded off with aromatic lavender and luxurious orris, which marry elegantly with the base note consisting of the classic woody aromas of amberwood, patchouli and Crystal Moss.

This is a scent that would be great on any man and even women who prefer a masculine fragrance.  Men are so hard to buy for, but I think the Jaguar Pace Eau De Toilette would make a great present for any man in you life.  It's a clean, sexy, warm fragrance that is not overpowering.
Jaguar Pace is available from Marks and Spencer's stores around the country and from Marks and Spencer's online:
Recommended retail prices:  Eau de Toilette Natural Spray, 60 ml - £28.00 and 100 ml - £44.00.

If you can't afford a Jaguar car, then at least you can have a little piece of the brand at home.  The bottle itself has the silver Jaguar insignia on the front which is a nice touch.

Give and Makeup and Other Interesting Blog Posts

I just wanted to highlight a couple of posts from other bloggers just in case they have passed you by.  First up is Give and Makeup from Caroline Hirons.  Caroline is currently running the Shoebox Campaign 2016 where you fill a box with gifts suitable for children which will be given to children who probably won't be expecting to receive much on Christmas day.  You can read full details about the campaign here.  You needn't spend much you could pick up lots of little items from the poundshop if you don't have a lot of spare cash, but every little helps.

Give and Makeup is there to help women and children who have been the victims of domestic violence and throughout the year they welcome donations of new or lightly used makeup, toiletries and clothes.  Further details can be found at the bottom of the page here.

I also want to highlight a post from British Beauty Blogger concerning what to do in the event of you choking, or witnessing someone else choking.  It's well worth knowing this information as it could save your or someone else's life.  I recently had to use the Heimlich Manoeuvre on a family member, so I speak from experience.

Please let me know if you read any interesting blog posts that you want to share with everyone.
