Poundland Haul

Now that my spending ban has finished I have managed to shop a few good hauls lately. Here's my latest one from Poundland.

I was really pleased to find these Baby Lips  SPF20 Lip Balms.  I got 2 smoothing and 1 protecting.
I got the 2 Hard Candy products in 1 package.  I got Kal Eye Descope Baked Eyeshadow Duo 067 Pick Up Line and Show Girl Loose Glitter (I must admit I thought this was nail polish when I bought it).  I also got a Revlon Scented nail polish in Ocean Breeze.
I got 3 Revlon Baby Sticks for lips and cheeks in Pink Passion, Tahitian and Sunset.
Finally I got a set of Eylure Pre-Glued Lashes.

I thought that was a pretty good haul.  Have you bought anything good from a Pound Shop lately?

Toms Haul

You know when you find that Holy Grail product, it doesn't happen often but when you find it you can't believe you lived without it?  Well Toms are my Holy Grail footwear. They fit perfectly and I just want to buy all of them. Usually when I buy new footwear I know that when I first wear them they are going to rub away the skin on my heel and I am going to avoid wearing them for ages until I absolutely have to.  I don't know if its the shape of my feet or what but I can't get shoes that just fit perfectly.  Until Toms that is, I love them.  I have in the past bought them in the Office sale and the options were limited but when I went to the Glamour Evening at Trinity Leeds they had 20% off most of the footwear in the shop including Toms.  So I did what any self respecting shopaholic would do and bought 3 pairs (hangs head in shame). At least on the plus side they do give a pair of shoes to a child in need for each pair bought.
Anyway I thought I would do a quick post on the pairs I bought, let me know what you think of them. Here's my first ever shoe selfies.

Seasonal Classic Slip on Navy Stripe Canvas £39.99 they cost me £31.99 after the 20% discount.
Seasonal Classic Slip on Baltic Dip Dye Crochet £41.99  they cost me £33.59 after the 20% discount.
Seasonal Classic Slip on Black Mint Pink Canvas £39.99 they cost me £31.99 after the 20% discount.

I'm really pleased with my purchases and I will be living in them over summer.

I bought these with my own money and no links are sponsored.

Glamour Shopping Evening at Trinity Leeds Review

I recently posted about a Glamour Shopping Evening at Trinity in Leeds.  Well I attended it and had a really good time so I thought I would do a quick post on it to let you know how it went.
On the night if you spent a certain amount you could pick up a free gift

Spend £10 - receive PICK ‘n’ MIX sweets
Spend £20  - receive a TREAT COCKTAIL
Spend £100 - receive £10 TRINITY LEEDS GIFT CARD

I don't really need any encouragement to shop so the above was a bonus. I honestly didn't go out to buy anything in particular, I just thought I would go and check it out as I've never been to a Glamour Shopping evening or any other type of Glamour event. The event started at 6pm so I went to Zizzis first for some food (using my tastecard) and then went to Trinity around 6.15pm. I had to queue up for a wristband first (so that you could get your discounts in shops) and there was a queue already but it was pretty organised if you had pre registered. On the night I bought some Toms from Office which had 20% off, some bits and bobs from Boots which had 500 extra points if you spent £30 or more and I picked up some items at Primark which didn't have any offers but is so cheap anyway I couldn't resist. I will post my haul separately.

Between me and my sister we got 3 Beauty Bags (I decided to get the beauty bags rather than a £10 gift card) and 1 Pick n Mix. Photos of the Beauty Bags are below (the top one was actually a Glossybox):
I thought they were all pretty decent and was happy with the content in each bag. Each Beauty Bag came with a box of Lindt chocolates as well (nom nom).
I got some samples from Boots which I cant wait to try out.
I also did the Spin the wheel game and won another 2 boxes of chocolates and my sister won the following, although she didn't get a chance to use it as we didn't have time which is a shame.

All in all I had a great time and I would definitely attend another event if there was one. I didn't expect to stay there as long as I did and to be honest I had to drag myself away in the end.

Did anyone else attend? What did you think?

Tangle Teezer Dupes

I have had a Tangle Teezer for a while now and I'm a big fan.  I have curly hair that leans towards being dry and frizzy. I don't like to wash it every day as it gets unmanageable, so it means that it does tend to get knotty and a Tangle Teezer is the only way that I can brush through my hair easily without it hurting or breaking the hair when wet.  It's my favourite brush ever and I can't see myself ever not using it as it makes brushing my hair so much easier. The reason I'm writing this blog is that I recently bought 2 brushes that seem similar to the Tangle Teezer and were a bit cheaper.  I bought my Tangle Teezer for £10 at Space.NK they are £10.50 now, which is actually cheaper than Boots where I think the same type was around £10.99.

The first brush I bought was Michel Mercier Detangling Hair Brush for thick hair.

I like the fact that this brush has a handle.  When I used it I found that it got through the tangles in my hair as quick as a Tangle Teezer but it did pull on my hair which hurt (the Tangle Teezer doesn't hurt at all) and felt like it would cause hair breakage.  It is a good dupe and at £7.99 from TKMaxx it was a good deal but it won't replace my Tangle Teezer any time soon.  One benefit of this brush is that it has a different brush for each hair type.

The second brush I bought was from Poundland.  Its by Allura and called Tangle Attack and is obviously £1.

Again, I found that it got through the tangles in my hair as quick as the Tangle Teezer but like the Michel Mercier brush it did pull on my hair and hurt a little bit. The bristles were also quite hard and hurt my head.  Again I wouldn't replace my Tangle Teezer but for the price its a reasonable dupe.

Over all I would rate them in the following order:

1st Tangle Teezer
2nd Michel Mercier Detangling Hair Brush
3rd Allura Tangle Attack - although for the price I think its a good brush to have and you could take it with you when you are travelling, so if you leave it behind anywhere its no big deal.

Have you tried any of these brushes?

I bought these with my own money and no links are sponsored.

Birchbox Review - April 2014

I still like the idea of getting a mystery box of beauty treats every month.  Most of the time I can't help but check out spoilers, but this time due to being really busy at work and also revising for an exam, I didn't have the time or inclination to check out any spoilers.  The only item that I knew about was the nail polish because they allowed you to pick the colour that you wanted to receive, prior to receiving the box. Hopefully, this is something that Birchbox will expand on and allow you more choice about what you receive in your box. Here's what I received:

I received a sample of TheBalm Cosmetics How 'Bout Them Apples Lip & Cheek Cream. Its a very small sample, enough to try out and see if its worth buying the full size of. The packaging is super cute, like a book where the cover opens to reveal the product. I received the shade Pie.

As mentioned above, I received a Nail Polish by Color Club.  I chose the shade Aquamarine Azulino which is a pearly pale blue shade.  This is a mini bottle and is 7ml.

Next up is Yes to cucumbers Soothing Facial Towelettes (10 pack).  I have heard of the brand, but never used any of their products.  These will be handy for travelling.

I have never heard of the brand Campos de Ibiza before.  I received their Almendra Body Milk (38ml).

The last beauty item was a Lord & Berry Couture Kohl Eye Pencil in black.  The pencil is only about 2 inches long.  I won't use this as I don't like black eyeliner as its a bit too harsh for me.  I prefer a dark brown pencil for a more subtle look.

The Lifestyle extra was a small bar of Propercorn Sweet Coconut & Vanilla. These make really great healthy snacks and I love the Sweet & Salty flavour.

Overall I am not wowed by this box.  I have seen some of the items that others have received and I think that I would have preferred different products in my box this time.  I think that the sooner beauty boxes allow you to choose more of the items that you receive in your box, the happier people will be.

YOU Beauty Discovery Box Review - April 2014

I received another great beauty box from You Beauty this month.  This box has an Organic and Natural inspired theme.

The two items that I picked were both face masks.  The Clayspray Brightening Mask (white clay with ginseng) which exfoliates, renews and energises for normal/combination skin and  Clayspray Glow Mask (red clay with cacao) which exfoliates, rejuvenates and nourishes for normal/combination skin.  Both are 30ml and cost £15 each at I also received a sachet of The Organic Pharmacy Face Cream Antioxidant and a 9bar fruity which is a mixed seed energy bar.  I can't wait to try out the masks.

Rather than spray the mask directly on to your face, which is what I expected (and would probably be way too messy), you spray or moisten your skin with natural mineral water, then dispense the product on your hand and massage into the area to be treated.  Leave on until dry and wash skin with water until clay is all removed.  I think I feel a pamper session coming on soon, so will report back on how well the masks work shortly.

As always there were some other products to choose from.  They included:
  • dr. organic Organic Dead Sea Mineral Eye Rescue Rollerball
  • Green People Vita Min Fix 24-Hour Cream
  • Essential Care Creamy Coconut Cleanser
  • Melvita Ultra-Nourishing Cream
  • Melvita Moisture-Replenishing Night Nectar
  • Inika Mineral Eyeshadow in Gun Metal
  • Steamcream Moisturiser
  • FoM Contouring Body Serum.
I am really happy with the masks that I picked.  I can't wait to see what the options are next month.  The You Beauty website is here.  If you do decide to join You Beauty Discovery, make sure that you pick your products as soon as the choice becomes available (usually the 1st of the month) as the popular products do go out of stock.

Tastecard Review

I recently signed up for a 30 day trial of Tastecard at  Its free to sign up for 30 days and you can use it at quite a few restaurants and get 2 for 1 or 50% on meals (depending on the restaurant).

I used it at the following restaurants:

Pizza Express
The card was really easy to use here. You don't have to book in advance, you just need to let them know you want to use the card before you order (I usually ask when I'm being taken to my table). You can't use it on Fridays and Saturdays or Bank Holidays but it can be used any other day at any time. Your tastecard entitles you to an exclusive 2 for 1 offer across all Starters, Mains, Desserts and Dolcetti (Intro’s, Sharing Starters and Sides are excluded from this offer). I thought this was a great offer and it saves a decent amount of money especially if you are getting 3 courses.

La Tasca
Again the card was easy to use. You don't have to book in advance, you just need to let them know you want to use the card before you order. You can't use it on Saturdays or Bank Holidays but it can be used any other day, at any time. The 2 for 1 discount is off the Tapas to Share Menu only. I really like La Tasca it has a great range of food to try and you can share the dishes with the people you are eating with,  so you can get to try more of the food there.

You need to make a telephone or online booking in advance in order to receive your discount. I tend to go on quieter days at around 6 so its doesn't seem busy enough to have to book, but as its in the T&Cs its best to book so that you can definitely use your card. It can't be used on Fridays and Saturdays. This exclusive offer to tastecard members of 2 for 1 is across all courses ordered (starters, mains and desserts).

There are plenty of other places to use the card such as Ask, Strada, and GBK, so its worth checking to see if your favourite restaurants are on there.

I found it really easy to use the card at the restaurants above and I saved a decent amount of money when I used the card (I wish Id bothered to keep the receipts to total it up but I forgot). Membership for the full year is £79.99 which seems steep so I don't think I would pay for the card, but I would recommend trying it for a month for free especially if you have some meals out planned. Please remember to check out what the terms and conditions are to use the card at each individual restaurant as they can vary. One of the reasons I wouldn't sign up for the full year is that most restaurants have some kind of offer each month so you can always save some money.

Poundland Haul

I always like a good pound shop haul, so I thought I would do a post on my last one (done before the start of the no spend challenge, if you have read my challenge post here). Here's what I bought from Poundland in Leeds city centre.
I have bought quite a few false nails from pound shops and Primark and I prefer the adhesive tabs rather than glue as its not as messy and really easy to do. They cost a bit more in Boots where I normally get them from.  I bought the Nail Stamping kit on a whim as Ive never dabbled in nail art before so I'm gonna give it a try.

As I said above I have bought loads of false nails lately and they have mostly been £1 which seems like such a bargain and I don't feel I have to keep them on for a long time to get my monies worth.  I just need to wear them on 1 occasion and can then take them off as I'm not great at doing things when I'm wearing longer nails. They are by Allura as are the products in the photo above.  I love the colours in these packs as you can use the same colour on each nail or do a mixed set if you felt like it.  There are 12 of each colour in the pack so 36 nails in total.
I always check out the nail polishes in the pound shop as I have had some great finds. I really liked these 3 colours.

  • Maybelline Forever Strong Pro - Green Miracle and Lilac Charm
  • L'Oreal Colour Riche 609 Divine Indigo.

I thought this Allura Tangle Attack looked like a Tangle Teezer dupe so thought I would give it a try for £1. I also picked up a cute pink and white Kabuki Brush.

Empties so far in 2014

Here's a post of all the products I have used up so far in 2014.  I have been trying really hard over the last couple of months to use my products regularly. I have just finished a 60 day spending ban so I have been trying to use up all my old products before I can buy any new ones.  Anyway here are the photos of my empties.  I will just mention the ones I've really liked and would buy again or the ones that I didn't really get on with and definitely wouldn't buy again.

LOVE, Chloe EDP 50ml.  I really like Chloe perfumes and have bought the original, LOVE and SeeBy Chloe.  I would buy this again but would probably wait for the Christmas sales as I have so many perfumes at the moment.

Balenciaga Paris EDP 50ml.  I bought this in the Christmas sales a couple of years ago and have finally finished it.  I liked this scent and would buy it again.  Its a very feminine, classic scent.  A Chypre Violet with the green, fresh signature of the flower and its leaves.

Fresh Sugar Rose Lip Treatment 2.2g.  This is a nice lip balm that leaves a subtle pink sheen on the lips.  Its a lovely product, but a little expensive for everyday use.

YSL Le Teint Touche Éclat Foundation - This is a sample that I picked up from the YSL counter and its definitely my favourite foundation, so I will repurchase when I have used up the numerous BB creams, tinted moisturisers and foundations that I still have in my stash.  Its a light to medium coverage and applies like a dream using my Real Techniques Face Brush.

Revlon Lip Butter in Peach Parfait - I love Revlon Lip Butters and this one is my favourite colour.  A bright, sparkly peach colour which is perfect for summer.   I will definitely repurchase this at some point.

L'Oreal Voluminous False Lashes Waterproof Mascara - I bought this in America, so I am not sure if this exact mascara is available over here, but thats not a problem as I don't rate this product.  I thought it was a little dry and although it separated my lashes well and didn't clump, it did not add any volume or length.  So nothing like false lashes at all.

L'Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in Sensual Rose. This is a sheer coral colour, but it was a bit too sheer for me, so I won't be repurchasing.

Phyto Phytojoba Intense Hydrating Brilliance Mask 200ml -  This was a nice intensive moisturising treatment, but I don't think its any better than some cheaper drugstore brands, so I won't be repurchasing.

Kiehls Creme De  Corps 250ml - I'm a big fan of Kiehl's although as it is expensive, I tend to buy in bulk when I go on holiday to America or when there is a really good offer on Kiehl's website.  I really like this body moisturiser it is really nice and thick and creamy although I do find it hard to get the product out of the bottle sometimes as its so thick.  This is definitely a product I would repurchase.

Elvive Anti-Frizz Shampoo 400ml - You can't go wrong with Elvive shampoo. I have curly hair that tends to frizz and this shampoo is great.  It's easy to brush through my hair after using this shampoo even before I got my tangle Teezer (one of my hero products).  Definitely would buy again.

Bath & Body Works be Enchanted fragrance mist - This is another product that I bought in America.  I love Bath & Body Works products, but this one turned out to be a bit fruity for my tastes.  Would not repurchase.

estelle & thild Facial Oil Rose Otto 30ml - I really like facial oils and use them as overnight moisturisers.  This was fine but nothing special so wouldn't buy again.

Caudalie Premier CRU Eye Creme 15ml - I didn't notice anything improving around my eyes with this cream and it is quite expensive so I wouldn't repurchase.

Neals Yard Bee Lovely to your hands Hand Cream 50ml - This product smells good enough to eat its so nice.  I would definitely buy this again as it really moisturises my hands well.

These are all the samples I have used lately (41 in total). I am trying to use them all up this year as I have collected loads.  As they are samples I'm not going to review them as I honestly don't think you can say whether they work or not from a small sample, but I do think I could use all my samples over a month and not have to use any other products or very few others as I have collected so many.

I bought these with my own money (sachets came free with Magazines I purchased)
